Hardwood flooring for Bay Area homes
Real wood brings a calm, finished elegance to a room that no other surface quite matches. MC Flooring is a licensed, family-run flooring company serving homeowners across the Bay Area, from the South Bay to the Peninsula, with additional service throughout Monterey County.
Every project begins with a free in-home estimate. We look at your subfloor, your light, and the way you live, then recommend either [solid hardwood](/real-solid-hardwood-flooring) or [engineered hardwood](/engineered-hardwood) and quote the whole job up front - materials, labor, and removal of the old floor.

Solid or engineered - choosing for the coast
Both are genuine wood. The difference is how the plank is built, and on the Central Coast that difference matters, because marine fog, salt air, and warm inland afternoons keep indoor humidity moving through the year.
- Solid hardwood - a full-thickness plank of one piece of wood, nailed to a wood subfloor. Ideal for raised-foundation cottages in Pacific Grove, Monterey, and Carmel.
- Engineered hardwood - a real-wood top layer over a stable plywood core. The better match for concrete slab homes in Salinas, Seaside, Marina, and Gilroy, where most tract houses are built on grade.
- Wide planks - five to seven inches reads modern and calm, and both constructions are available.
- Herringbone and chevron - classic patterns that suit older Monterey homes as well as new builds.
Species and stain colors that suit the light here
White and red oak are our most requested species: durable, honest in grain, and forgiving of sandy feet coming in from the beach. Maple gives a cleaner, quieter look, hickory stands up to busy households, and walnut suits a formal living room or study.
Coastal homes tend to reward softer, natural tones - light oak, gentle greige, and warm honey - while inland valley homes with strong afternoon sun look rich in deeper browns. We bring sample boards to your house so you judge the color in your own light, not under artificial store lighting. Careful installation from start to finish
We install nail-down, glue-down, and floating hardwood depending on what your subfloor allows. Each job includes moisture testing, subfloor flattening, baseboard removal and reinstall, and haul-away of the old floor through our [flooring installation](/flooring-installation) service. Where the old floor has to come up first, our [demolition and prep](/floor-demolition-prep) crew keeps the work clean and contained.

Hardwood Flooring - frequently asked questions
Most whole-room projects take two to four days, depending on the pattern, the size of the space, and whether the old floor needs to be removed first. We confirm the schedule when we hand you the written quote.
Yes, with the right construction. Engineered hardwood is the steadier choice over concrete slabs and in foggy, humid neighborhoods like Marina and Seaside, while solid hardwood does beautifully on raised foundations. Our [hardwood stairs](/hardwood-stairs) work pairs well with either.
We bring sample boards in your species and tone and can usually match within a shade. If a perfect blend matters to you, we will talk through your options on site, or consider [floor repair](/floor-repair) for isolated damaged boards.
Absolutely. If wood look matters but moisture or budget is a concern, we are happy to show you [luxury vinyl plank](/luxury-vinyl-plank) and [laminate](/laminate-flooring) alongside real wood so you can compare in person.
